Lyme Update

(UPDATED 4/5)

I realized why I’ve been feeling bad again. I am going through a Herxheimer reaction. I was wondering if it was that for a while.

A die-off reaction, also called a Herxheimer reaction, can occur when treating the Lyme germ, some co-infections, and yeast. It occurs as bacteria or yeast die during antibiotic treatment. It is common to have Herxheimer die-off reactions when starting herbal anti-microbials or antibiotics when treating Lyme. These reactions can also occur when new antibiotics are introduced into a treatment.

I can’t lie. Due to a tooth infection in my household, I popped a few penicillin pills. I took 2 a day for a couple of days. This has to be the cause of the Herxheimer reaction. My thinking was since I had brought everything down naturally that maybe what was left could be targeted by a few penicillin capsules… I went through the die-off reaction when I first started my herbal treatments as well. Not fun, but glade it’s dying off.

In a die-off reaction, there is a release of toxins, proteins, and oxidizing agents that results in an increase in inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor alpha, interleukin-6, and interleukin-8.

The symptoms of a die-off reaction are generally a worsening of the underlying symptoms of Lyme disease and its associated infections. A majority of Lyme disease symptoms are actually excess inflammatory cytokine symptoms. So in a die-off reaction there is a worsening of many Lyme disease symptoms including: fatigue, brain-fog, muscle and nerve pain, chills and sweats, and/or memory and thinking.

My brain fog has been super bad. I just can’t retain any number, or detail. Luckily I have a great mother-in-law who supplied me with an abundance of curcumin CoQ10 complex pills. I have 1 bottle I saved for when it was needed again – I guess that time has come. I highly recommend this if you are having similar problems.

Dealing with Lyme Die-off reactions

Hey all!

So I was feeling pretty good lately, I even thought I was just about healed… but then the cold came back and I added some things in my diet for the holiday weekend; which I noticed made me feel sluggish and tired again. I feel like all those older people who complain when the weather gets chilly – arg my bones. But seriously, the diet really seemed to be the winner in keeping me feeling normal and getting me healthy again.

I’ve been trying to keep to the Starch Solution by Dr. Mcdougall. I noticed a tremendous amount of energy came back. It’s like these dry bones are living again. It’s amazing what your body can do when you give it room to heal.

I haven’t been taking my herbs for Lyme as a couple other infections have happened, so I’ve been taking herbs for the other issues first. Lyme likes to keep your immune system bogged down – so I guess I still have a bit left somewhere in my body. Its a bummer too because I would really like to get Lasik done, but they have precautions for that if you have any sort of auto-immune disease or Lyme. I also need to get my poor teeth fixed, but again, anything where I need to heal can cause further problems…

But as I stated above, I am finally getting better!! So hopefully in time I will be able to say I’m healed and get all the other stuff taken care of. It’s nice to wake up and have the strength and the will power to get up and take care of the house and kids. If anyone wants to volunteer to be a nanny – that would be awesome ;D.
